A court in Zimbabwe has overturned a government ban on opposition campaign rallies.
A lawyer for the Movement for Democratic Change told reporters that a judge at the High Court in Harare had issued an order to police to allow the planned rallies to proceed. Charles Kwaramba said the MDC had filed an urgent application to the court after police had denied the party authorisation to stage a number of presidential campaign events. Police said they had based their decision on reports from the MDC that its members had been threatened with assassination.
