US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has met the commander of US troops in eastern Afghanistan, to talk about the war he says is not getting enough attention from the Bush administration.
Obama hopes to boost his security credentials, seen as the Achilles heel of his presidential bid. Obama wants up to 10,000 extra US troops in Afghanistan and a shift from what he said was the Bush administration's "single-minded" focus on Iraq. The United States currently has about 36,000 troops in Afghanistan. Obama is due to hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday.
