US presidential candidate Barack Obama has reaffirmed his position that Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel but insisted its final status must be decided through peace talks.

Obama assured Palestinian leaders that he would become involved in the Middle East peace process quickly if elected to the White House. Obama is scheduled to arrive in Berlin on Thursday for meetings with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steienmeier. He is also scheduled to give an open-air speech at the "Victory Column" in Berlin's Tiergarten park.
