German boss lauds Podolski double ... signed a preliminary agreement to let the United States deploy 10 interceptor missiles along the Baltic coast, Ukraine has said it is now also prepared to open its missile defense network to cooperation with European and other foreign powers. Ukraine's foreign ministry said that the withdrawal by Russia from a bilateral defense agreement earlier this year allows Kiev to establish active ties with other countries. Russia has reacted with anger to the US-Polish missile shield deal. Deputy chief of staff, General Anatoly Nogovistyn, said the plans for a missile base in Poland could not go "unpunished". Washington says the system is intended to protect itself and Europe against missile attacks from "rogue states".
