26.08.2008 - Czech soldier wounded in road accident in Afghanistan

He suffered medium injuries, Ruzickova said. His life is not endangered and he communicates with other people, Ruzickova said, adding that details on his health condition only depended on the soldier's consent. The soldier was in a convoy of vehicles of the military police that was moving from the Czech base in Logar to Kabul.

of its four soldiers fell out from it and was injured. He was airlifted to the U.S. field hospital in Bagram from where he will be moved to the Czech Republic. Two Czechs have died in Afghanistan this year. The Czech Republic has 400 soldiers in the country, 200 of whom are deployed within the PRT in Logar province. The PRT ensures the province's economic reconstruction and security. A 100-strong contingent of a Czech field hospital and a chemical warfare unit is stationed in Kabul. The hospital is to be withdrawn by the end of the year. Czechs also operate in Uruzgan and Helmand provinces. The Czech Republic wants its PRT in Logar to stay for a number of years. However, the Afghan government said earlier today it wanted to reconsider the presence of foreign troops in the country. Czech Defence Minister Vlasta Parkanova told CTK today the Czech Republic would comply with the Afghan government's possible decision to terminate the presence of foreign soldiers in the country. Parkanova stressed that the international forces are in Afghanistan with the consent of the local democratically elected government. "If this government decided to terminate the presence of the soldiers in the country, we would naturally respect it and comply with the decision," she said.
