For the first time in over a year, a German soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.
Three others troops were injured when the armoured vehicle he was travelling in struck a remote-controlled bomb near the northern city of Kunduz. German Defence Minister Frank Josef Jung has condemned the attack, calling it cowardly and underhanded. More than 3,000 troops from the German Bundeswehr are stationed in northern Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force.
