Jehlicka (Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL) is allegedly waiting for the result of a legal analysis of the NK contest.
However, the sources close to the Culture Ministry say the decision on Jezek's dismissal and his possible successor was made on Thursday. Jehlicka is allegedly considering Pavel Hazuka, current director of the Museum of Czech Literature (PNP), as Jezek's successor. Anti-trust office head secretly meets businessman Babis - CT ... today. However, he previously reiterated he was not aware of any mistakes on his side in the preparation of the international architectonic contest, which the London-based Future Systems studio of famous Czech-born architect Jan Kaplicky won last year. A year and a half since the competition, the project of the new NK to be built on Prague Letna plain close to the city centre has been accompanied by many problems. Kaplicky's design of a nine-storey building shaped as a broad pyramid with rounded edges, dubbed "octopus," has raised controversial reactions and divided the public as well as experts and politicians into its supporters and opponents. Jehlicka last week wrote a letter to Jezek in which he criticised his mistakes during the preparation of the library's construction, using the Czech Anti-trust Office's (UOHS) stance as an argument. The UOHS cites the European Commission's legal opinion, saying that the competition for a new Czech national library building was not in accordance with law. Jezek opposes this stance. Moreover, a legal complaint has been filed against the NK over the alleged non-observance of the architectonic contest's conditions. Jezek was also blamed for not having secured the plots for the library before the contest. He, on his part, criticised primarily the Prague City Hall for not having kept its promise to sell the plots on Letna plain. Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek has also criticised the preparation of the library's construction. Jezek has occupied the post of NK head since autumn 2004 and since then he has been striving for a new NK library. Jezek will run for the Senate for the KDU-CSL in the autumn elections. Nevertheless, the National Library badly needs a new building because it is running out of capacity and the conditions for keeping books are not suitable.
