Tropical Storm Gustav has been upgraded to a hurricane as it heads towards the United States.
The US National Hurricane Center fears Gustav could strengthen into a major Category 4 hurricane by the time it reaches the US. Emergency officials warned that Gustav was expected to be accompanied by a 15- to 30-foot storm surge along the Gulf Coast, and said four states in its potential path were expected to begin large-scale evacuations on Saturday.
