Chinese state media say an earthquake in the country's southwestern Sichuan province has killed at least 22 people and injured more than a hundred.
The US Geological Survey says the quake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, struck at 4:30 pm, about 160 kilometres northwest of Kunming, the regional capital of Yunnan. Many people in the capital remained outdoors after nightfall for fear of aftershocks. A massive quake hit Sichuan province in May this year, killing nearly 70,000 people. About 18,000 are still missing.
