US President George W.
Bush has cancelled plans to go to the Republican National Convention and will concentrate instead on Hurricane Gustav. Bush will travel to Texas on Monday to oversee emergency efforts. Gustav, which has already killed over 80 people in the Caribbean, is expected to make landfall on Monday afternoon somewhere between western Mississippi and East Texas. The mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin has ordered a full evacuation of the city and imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew. Nagin described Gustav as "the storm of the century" and urged all residents to comply with the evacuation demand. Three years ago Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf coast region, killing 1,800 people and making thousands homeless.
