Ukraine's government is on the verge of collapse once more. President Viktor Yushchenko has threatened to call a snap election, after accusing his prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, of destroying the coalition by siding with his rivals.
Tymoshenko's party joined the opposition in passing a law on Tuesday that curbed presidential powers while enhancing those of the prime minister. In a televised national address, Yushchenko said the move amounted to what he called "a political and constitutional coup".
