Rival Cypriot leaders have relaunched negotiations to end the island's decades-old division.
Greek Cypriot Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot Mehmet Ali Talat met at an abandoned airport compound in the no-man's-land which divides their capital Nicosia. Diplomatic sources said the talks were the most promising steps towards a breakthrough in decades. Former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, appointed UN special envoy for Cyprus in July, is mediating in the talks.
