Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said that a round of indirect talks between Syria and Israel has been postponed due to the resignation of the chief Israeli negotiator.
Assad made it clear that Syria did not want the Turkish-mediated talks to stop, but did not say when the next round was expected. Assad has meanwhile hosted a summit for talks on Lebanon and Israel in Damascus. The summit was attended by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, as well as French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
