Her visit will mark the full renewal of US relations with Tripoli which were suspended in 1981 when the US denounced Libya as a state sponsor of terrorism. This comes five years after the Libyan leader, Muhammar Ghadhaffi, announced that the northern African country was renouncing weapons of mass destruction following months of secret talks with the United States and Britain.
