Sehwag sets up thumping India win ... Asif Ali Zardari on his sweeping victory in Pakistan's presidential election. Britain and the US said they would work closely with the widower of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on issues such as counterterrorism and economic stability.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he hoped ties between Pakistan and Iran would expand. Zardari replaces Pervez Musharraf who resigned last month fearing parliamentary impeachment. The Pakistan People's Party now holds the presidency and leads the government. In response to accusations that he was a controversial choice Zardari said democracy had spoken.
