US movie director Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" has won the Golden Lion for best film at the 65th Venice Film Festival.
The film follows the story of a wrestler, played by Mickey Rooney, who is forced into retirement and strikes up a romance with an aging stripper. German director Werner Schroeter, who achieved film festival success in 1980 with his film "Palermo oder Wolfsburg" was awarded the Special Lion for his body of work.
