Sudanese rebels say government forces have launched ground and air attacks on at least three guerrilla positions Sudan's restive western province Darfur.
Leaders from insurgent groups say troops backed by helicopters, Antonov planes and militias riding horses and camels, attacked their bases in Disa and Birmaza as well as settlements south of the town of Tawila. They said as many as 60 people, including civilians, were killed in the attacks. The reports come after the International Criminal Court moved to indict Sudan's President Omar Hassan al-Bashir for genocide in Darfur. International experts say the five-year old crisis in the province has killed 200,000 people and driven more than 2.5 million from their homes.
