Polls in Hong Kong are open for elections for the Legislative Council.
The poll is seen as a barometer for advocates of democratic reform in the Chinese-ruled territory. But rising Chinese patriotism is expected to help pro-government candidates. In addition, issues like wages, education and inflation are attracting more attention than concerns about freedoms in the former British colony. In the last election four years ago, the pro-democratic camp won nearly 60 percent of the vote but because of Hong Kong's functional constituency system, only half of the council's seats are elected directly.
