Germany's Social Democratic Party has reshuffled its leadership ahead of the 2009 federal elections.
This is according to media reports from the Party's conference currently underway in Berlin. Reports say the SDP chairman Kurt Beck is poised to resign, leaving Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to face Chancellor Angela Merkel in the election and recalling veteran Franz Muentefering as party leader. The SDP, the traditional party of the German left is currently lagging behind the CDU/CSU in the polls.
