Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's lawyers have dismissed an announcement by police that Olmert should face criminal charges for bribery and other counts as irrelevant.
Olmert has denied any wrongdoing in a series of investigations against him but has already said he will resign later this month over the multiple corruption allegations. The ruling Kadima party is expected to hold a leadership vote on 17 September. The police say they have evidence that Olmert illegally received money from a US businessman, made duplicate claims for travel expenses and used a former cabinet post to promote a friend's business interests.
