Hurricane Ike, a giant storm which has already left 100 dead in the Caribbean, has made landfall at the coast of the US state of Texas. Winds are reaching speeds of 175 kilometres an hour.

It is estimated that over four million people are without power in the area because of the storm which is currently heading towards Houston, a city of five million inhabitants.
