Hurricane Ike has weakened to a tropical storm leaving the US states of Texas and Louisiana with heavy coastal flooding and widespread damage but no confirmed fatalities.

President Bush explains the credit crunch: 'Wall Street got drunk' ... been left paralysed, with its streets littered with debris, including glass from the shattered windows of skyscapers. Texas governor Rick Perry says "very heavy damage" to power grids has left 4.5 million people without electricity. Outages could last weeks. Ike, which caused 100 deaths last week in the Caribbean, was the biggest storm to hit a US city since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. The remnant Ike is now churning across Arkansas.
