Italy's airline Alitalia has warned that fuel payment problems could force it to begin flight cancellations as trade unions and the government prepare for last-ditch talks to save the airline and its 20,000 jobs.
On Saturday Italy's civil aviation authority said Alitalia's operating licence was at risk. Unions have rejected job losses and pay cuts which would result under plan to sell parts of the airline to a consortium of investors.
