Leaders of Thailand's ruling People Power Party (PPP) have nominated Somchai Wongsawat for prime minister.
Somchai is a brother-in-law of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was ousted in a 2006 coup. He has been acting prime minister since last week when Thailand's constitutional court removed former prime minister Samak Sundaravej from office for violating the constitution. Parliament will vote for the new prime minister on Wednesday. Analysts say that Somchai's close connection to Shinawatra renders it unlikely that the opposition People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will accept him.
