An Australian jury has found a Muslim cleric and five of his followers guilty of planning to stage a "violent jihad" in Melbourne in 2005 in a bid to force Australian troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sentences still have to be passed but the six men are facing life imprisonment. Four other accused were acquitted and two have yet to receive a verdict on the charge against them. The prosecutor told the Victoria state Supreme Court that the group of 12 had planned to attack a grand final football match attended by 97,000 fans in Melbourne. The attack did not take place.
