A second infant has died in a growing scandal over contaminated baby milk in China.
Nineteen people have been detained by the state authorities. One of the accused has confessed to having spiked the milk with the banned chemical melamine to increase the milk's protein content. State media said the number of infants infected with kidney stones caused by contaminated milk powders from the Chinese dairy San Lu has increased to more than 1,200. Fifty infants are still in a critical condition. According to the health ministry, most of the infections occurred in Hebei, Jiangsu and Gansu provinces, with both deaths coming in Gansu.
