Aid sources in Sudan's North Darfur region say thousands of villagers have been forced to flee their homes after more than a week of heavy clashes between Sudanese forces and rebels.

Attack kills Darfur peacekeepers ... militias had carried out a series of heavy ground and air attacks in North Darfur throughout last week. The reported clashes come at a time when food is in particularly short supply before the harvest. International experts say more than five years of fighting in Darfur has left 200,000 people dead and driven more than 2.5 million from their homes.
