S Lanka clashes 'kill 26 rebels' ... rebel-held north on September 9 as its military approached the Tamil Tiger rebel headquarters at Kilinochchi. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said aid workers will be allowed back soon and were only barred from the region for their own safety. The military is currently carrying out a major offensive to defeat the Tigers, who have been fighting for a separate state for the Tamil minority for 25 years.
