Chancellor Angela Merkel's government has ordered an inquiry into reports that Germany's KfW paid over 300 million euros to Lehman Brothers on Monday only hours before the US investment bank filed for bankruptcy.
The Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung said KfW passed the money to Lehman as part of a swap arrangement. KfW was set up as a reconstruction bank and handles most federal-government investments.
