Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is projected to have won a ballot to determine the next leader of the ruling Kadima Party. Outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has already congratulated Livni on her expected win.
Exit polls suggest Livni won between 47 and 49 percent of the vote, and finished significantly ahead of her opponent, Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz. If confirmed officially, the win would pave the way for Livni to become Israel's first female prime minister in more than three decades. She would have 42 days to form a government.
