Police initiate charges against Czech-Afghan chamber head ... This follows an accusation by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who said NATO had shown itself unable to provide security in Europe. At a meeting of defence ministers of the 26 NATO nations in London, alliance secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer pledged "full solidarity" with Georgia, an ex-Soviet republic. Georgian efforts to join NATO have infuriated Russia. In London, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his Czech counterpart Vlasta Parkanova also signed an agreement to station US forces to operate a missile defence radar in the Czech Republic. Ten US interceptor missiles are to be stationed in Poland.
