The European Union is reportedly planning to send far more ceasefire observers to Georgia than originally planned.
An EU official said the bloc would likely deploy 340 observers instead of the 200 originally intended to monitor the peace in a buffer zone between Georgian and Russian forces. The head of the EU observer mission, German diplomat Hansjörg Haber, arrived in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, at the weekend. A German foreign ministry spokesperson said 25 Germans would be among the EU observers.
