German Chancellor Angela Merkel has defended the controversial "Volkswagen Law".
The 50-year old law grants the state of Lower Saxony veto power at Europe's largest carmaker VW. Speaking to Volkswagen workers at the company's Wolfsburg headquarters, Merkel said the state must be allowed to retain its veto rights, despite European Union attempts to overturn it. Volkswagen employees support the law, but it is opposed by Porsche, the company's main shareholder, which is seeking to cut down the influence of Lower Saxony and VW unions.
