US President George W.
Bush says he is confident that Congress will pass his administration's proposed 700-billion-dollar plan to bail out the financial markets. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Bush said that while lawmakers continued to differ on the details of the rescue package, all agreed on the urgency of finding a solution. Congress members have said that they were willing to work through the weekend to hammer out a compromise. Republican presidential candidate John McCain says he will attend Friday's presidential debate with his Democratic rival Barack Obama. McCain had earlier said he was reluctant to take part in the televised debate amid the current financial market turbulence.
