The Sudanese army has killed six gunmen, who it claims were involved in kidnapping a group of European tourists over a week ago.
A Sudanese military spokesperson said a gunfight erupted near the border with Chad, after Sudanese forces followed the kidnappers' trail. The military said it captured two suspects who told them the hostages were in Chad. The group, which includes five Germans, five Italians, a Romanian and their Egyptian guides, was seized in Egypt's southwest, close to the border with Sudan, last Friday.
