Police discovered over 220 kilograms of melamine during raids on dairy farms and milk purchasing stations. They said the toxic chemical was produced at underground plants and then sold to dairies where added to milk products to make them appear richer in protein. As a result of the scandal, countries around the world have removed Chinese milk products from their shelves.
